Supporting Member States in building a skilled health workforce

A central objective of health workforce development is to produce sufficient numbers of skilled workers with technical competencies whose background and social attributes make them accessible and able to reach diverse clients and populations.

The quality of education and training is a matter of national importance in each country. Quality assurance is a collective responsibility of the academic community, health systems, regulatory authorities and governments. This involves a broad scope of activities, including accreditation of educational institutions and programmes, professional regulation (registration, certification, licensing).

WHO/Europe supports Member States by:

• Providing technical consultancy and support to countries in their efforts to improve the quality of education and training of health professionals;  
• Building national and institutional capacity to introduce evidence-based approach in education and practice;
• Advising on the Bologna Process in health professionals` education.
